Wire Recording
Wire Recording is run by Stuart Sullivan, who has spent a lifetime in the industry collecting specially designed analog gear. As the music industry shifted towards digital, Stuart invested in and adapted his studio to offer his clients a workflow of either analog, digital, or both simultaneously. This helped put Wire Recording on the map and solidify Stuart as a force of knowledge and curator of sonic excellence. In the early 80’s, he started running sessions at Lonestar Studio, then was called to help build and engineer at Arlyn for 16 years and Willie’s Pedernales Studio. He is proud to have called Austin home for over 40 years.
Analog tape recording has shaped the sound of modern music for decades. Known for its warm, natural compression and harmonic saturation, tape adds a richness that many engineers and musicians still seek today. Despite the rise of digital audio, analog tape remains a beloved tool in studios worldwide.
Electromagnetics
Analog gear has long been the backbone of professional recording studios. From vintage compressors and equalizers to tube preamps and summing mixers, these tools impart a warmth and character that digital processing often struggles to replicate. Over the years, Wire Recording has gone through many evolution, and in its most recent, the sale of the vintage API Legacy console was not a light decision.
Decades of choices
Who needs a console?
Over the 25 years Stuart owned his API console, he had collected hundreds of parts for the occasional repair. After he sold his board, he used his extra components along side CAPI audio kits to effectively put his console in a tight nine rack space setup, giving him his classic API sound in a more compact and modern outfit. The different transformers and other Neve, RCA, Retro, Gates, and Telefunken Preamps allow the right signal path to be selected for the instrument.
